XMPP

XMPP is a federated chat protocol. That means that anyone with an XMPP account on one server can talk to anyone with an XMPP account on any other server. We like that because it promotes a more open internet, in alternative to the walled gardens provided by the like of Google and Facebook.

Every user on this website automatically receives an XMPP account when they register. If you have an account here then your XMPP account is your_username@puredirt.org.

We are working on building a web interface so that we can use XMPP from the site itself. Until then there are many clients available for every platform.

Some popular clients include:

• Pidgin, which runs on Linux, Windows
• Adium, for MacOS
• Conversations, for Android
